Dom Malin comes full circle with intimate new single ‘Tapping Out’

For the Midlands-based singer-songwriter Dom Malin, his latest single ‘Tapping Out’ feels like a full circle moment. This emotionally rich song is a piece of deeply personal reflection, connecting to broader themes in the artist’s personal life of perseverance and the pursuit of meaning, despite whatever struggles may have come his way. Malin has given his all to music over recent years, touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the USA, building a vibrant, global community, and tirelessly pushing his craft to new levels. The journey hasn’t always been easy or straight-forward, but it has been beyond rewarding and Dom Malin’s gratitude for the process shines throughout his music.
Speaking about what ‘Tapping Out’ represents, Malins says, “This song is a personal journey through the emotional trek of running from the past while carrying the weight of failure. It’s about confronting the loneliness, regret, and the ache of unfulfilled expectations. For me, this reflects both personal and professional struggles—failed relationships, and trying to rebuild a life through music, chasing a dream that sometimes feels out of reach.”

Musically, ‘Tapping Out’ starts with the quiet intimacy of guitar and piano, creating space for reflection. As the song builds, layers of percussion, organ, and lead guitar come in, echoing the rising intensity of coming face-to-face with those past experiences. The crescendo gives way to a raw, stripped-back ending — just piano and vocals — signifying the fragile, but hopeful acceptance that comes when you face the truth.
As a songwriter, Dom Malin is no stranger to exploring that inner world of hopes, doubts, dreams, and uncertainty. In 2024, he released indie-folk single ‘Hurricane’ (The heavy sigh of a weathered soul - Atwood Magazine) about navigating life’s storms which was followed by protective indie-rock motif ‘Keep Out The Rain’ (Traversing through misunderstandings and internalised feeling - Songwriting Magazine).
As well as new music, last year was also an incredible year for Dom Malin to further grow his audience by connecting with them through various online avenues and it has now enabled him to take his music career full-time.
Reminiscing on one of the best years in his career so far, he reflects:
“2024 was a year of building my community and growing a loyal following. I never expected that going live on TikTok for the first time in October would bring such a beautiful, diverse range of people. From South America to Australia, I’ve had fans reach out and share personal stories. My headline show in Madrid is happening because a fan discovered my music at a point in her life when she needed comfort, and now, she wants to give back.”
Speaking specifically about the impact his supporters have had on his music and life, Dom shares:
“Each livestream feels like a social gathering at a cosy café — we hang out, share stories, and support one another in a safe space. Not only do they support my music through subscription-based services that allow me to remain fully independent, but they also support each other. This incredible community has been a huge reason why I’m able to pursue music full-time. Through their generosity and encouragement, I can focus entirely on my craft, sharing my music and connecting with people who truly believe in what I do.”
With ‘Tapping Out’, Malin signals another momentous year ahead with more new music and live shows, including a special show in Madrid at El Sótano on 29th March 2025 - event details here.

About
Dom Malin has built his life around music. From acquiring his first electric guitar at 12-years-old, he has never let go of that childlike wonder and passion for creating music. He’s continually inspired by the potent connection between music and memory, how a song can transport you back to a certain time or place.
“I distinctly remember coming home from a camping trip in Wales, and “One of Us” by Joan Osborn was playing on the radio. Music has shaped my life, almost like milestones—from rushing home to watch the latest MTV music videos as a young teen, to sharing music with my friends, being inspired by Damien Rice’s live performance at Glastonbury, “Hey There Delilah” coming on in the middle of an art class. These moments are marked by music, which drew me into it and allowed me to discover emotions that I wanted to emulate and discover in my style.”
In his youth, a pivotal life moment happened at a school talent show where he performed Green Day’s iconic anthem ‘Time of Your Life’; driven by adrenaline, that evening he wrote his first song. Later, he cut his teeth busking around Birmingham, Bristol, and Manchester, as well as playing on every open mic he could find. He went on to study Music Performance at university, which not only led to Malin teaching music, but primarily it built his confidence in his own music. From session guitarist to solo act, he would go on to win the BBC Introducing Midlands Young Person talent contest and headline Wolvestock Country Music Festival at the impressive age of 17. He even created a limited pressing of his own demos on a four-track (Boss Micro BR), all produced by himself from the pressing to the recording to the artwork.
On several occasions, he has been the artist of the week for BBC Introducing Lincolnshire and gained support through numerous music platforms, including the veritable Mahogany. Dom Malin has boundless enthusiasm for playing live. In 2023, he supported Paris Paloma on her UK tour, supported Dermot Kennedy’s Sonder tour, and headed up his own tour through Germany and Switzerland. In 2024, he joined fellow singer-songwriter Luna Keller for an extensive tour across Germany and the Netherlands and supported Hazlett on his first US solo tour.
