MECHA MECHA Unveil Brooding New Single 'Mourning In The Evening' & B-Side

Dark indie triad Mecha Mecha is bringing the heat with their newest woeful tale ‘Mourning In The Evening’, an epic and moody song built on the rubble of a seminal breakup. Releasing with it, is its demo, ‘The Worst Dream’.
The three-piece duo was formed when two Brisbanite brothers, Angelo (who plays the drums) and Walter (a singer and player of various instruments), literally stumbled into the melodic aroma of Isaac Vincent’s violin playing as he busked on the streets of Lismore in 2016, and from then on, they’ve been a united front as they’ve performed on the bill with superstar lineup featuring Smash Mouth, Marsha Hines, Killing Heidi, Diana Anaid and The Church at Airlie Beach Festival of Music, received thousands of views on Youtube, been nominated for a myriad of awards, and DIY’d their way to glory.
Their latest single ‘Mourning In The Evening’ is deliciously dark and broody. Piano, drums, and static noise melt together to create a heavy fog of compelling gloom that settles around the vocals. Walter Anthony Webb’s voice is like a fallen angel’s, grieved and beautiful as it journeys from high notes to lows, taking a tone that shapeshifts through genres. Midway, the somber tone of the song takes on a more upbeat rock tone, before sliding back into that sweet sorrow, drawing the listener in and keeping them on their toes.
The lyrics of this song are heavy and emotional, as the singer grieves a breakup like it’s a death, but looking down on himself from an external perspective, as a means to cope with the end of a significant relationship. He struggles to understand his life now with this new outlook, refusing to move through the stages of grief, ending with the comforting nonsense of ‘na-na-na’s. Walter Webb describes the lyrics as,
“Esoterically, it's just a comment on how life often seems to hit us with everything in one go, and we push on, the silver lining of rain clouds acting as a lighthouse that guides you through whatever storm it is you're traversing. But lyrically, it's just a sad song about the worst part of a break up.”
Reflecting the raw, vulnerable nature of the release in a magnifying mirror is the b-side demo, ‘The Worst Dream’, which lays emotions bare for the world to see.
Mecha Mecha is set to perform with The Wish Fufilled and Whitt’s End on February 20, the day of the release, at The Cave Inn in Woolloongabba.
