Indie-Rock Breakout Meg Elsier Returns With Spittake (Deluxe)

Indie-rock breakout meg elsier returns with spittake (deluxe) out today via Bright Antenna Records. The expanded edition of her acclaimed debut features 17 tracks—including unreleased demos, raw live recordings, and intimate B-sides—offering a deeper look into the emotional and creative heart of the original album.
Blending gauzy shoegaze textures, grungy guitars, and razor-sharp lyricism, spittake (deluxe) gives a more unfiltered glimpse into the messy, uncertain, and deeply human process behind the music. Through candid reflections on love, loss, nostalgia, youth, anxiety, and self-doubt, meg draws listeners deeper into her sonic world with sharp self-awareness and a distinctly self-deprecating edge.
“These B-sides, these demos, this deluxe—it’s a celebration of all the little choices that made ‘spittake’ what it is,” meg says. “Creating is such a vulnerable playground. It’s a place to make mistakes. It’s a place to try these characters and voices and performances without anyone watching. I wanted to show how much beauty can exist in the unfinished and imperfect.”
The focus track “run [oldsong]” is the oldest track in the spittake lineup—an emotional outlier that still always felt like a keeper. “When I played it live, a hush would fall over the room. A kind of holy reverberation,” meg says. Lyrically rooted in unfamiliar terrain, the song explores growth, connection, and the quiet strength in shared struggle. Though it was nearly shelved, recording "run [oldsong]” became a chaotic, joy-filled finale to the original album sessions. “We kept all the original stems. We didn’t want to rethink it. We wanted this version of ‘run’ to stem from the work we did as a group, as friends.” The “run [oldsong]” visualizer is also out today — watch here.
One of the most exciting new voices in the indie-rock scene, meg elsier juxtaposes sweet vocals and opulent melodies with grungy guitars and weighty production. Her 2024 debut LP garnered praise from DIY Magazine, OnesToWatch, and CLASH for its emotionally raw storytelling and distinct sonic identity. Known for her emotionally charged live shows, meg recently wrapped tours with Blondshell and Liz Cooper, further cementing her reputation as one of indie rock’s most compelling new voices.
