Nell Mescal Returns With Brand-New Track "Carried Away"

Hot off another intimate, sell-out tour of acoustic shows and a run of major festival performances on the horizon, Nell Mescal returns with new single “Carried Away” today. The song is also accompanied by an official music video available today on YouTube HERE.

“Carried Away” is the first track to be lifted from recent recording sessions in Brooklyn, NY, emerging as an early glimpse of a new body of work from Nell, her first since signing to Atlantic Records and a follow-up to her debut EP Can I Miss It For A Minute?.

Produced by Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Billie Marten, Cass McCombs), “Carried Away” hears Nell turn the lens on a faltering relationship. “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer,” explains Nell. “Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away”.‍

Speaking about working on “Carried Away” with Weinrobe at his studios in Brooklyn, NY, Nell adds, “The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas. We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song.”‍

Having recently performed at the Somerset House “Summer Session” and TRNSMT Festival, Nell still has a number of festivals and show appearances lined up, including a set at Newcastle’s Come Together Festival on June 4^th, Reading & Leeds Festival, and Rock N Roll Circus in Sheffield. Plus, a larger-scale UK tour is in the works for late 2025. ‍

“I’m beyond excited for what’s to come and this new music,” says Nell. “I have a bunch of new tracks that I’ve just completed and will be announced very soon. I’ll be playing more festivals this summer and working on a run of headline shows for you all later in the year ❤️”

Nell’s relentless live presence has made her a genuine force on the circuit. She’s graced festivals like Latitude, All Points East, and Electric Picnic, while also supporting major acts such as HAIM, Florence & The Machine, Dermot Kennedy, and The Last Dinner Party. Her January 2024 UK tour sold out in a flash, where Nell and her band performed debut EP tracks for the first time.‍
