Today, Sofia and The Antoinettes releases her stunning debut EP, “WOMEN WHO LOVE TOO MUCH”, a collection of intimate portraits of love, loss and identity inspired by Robin Norwood’s 1985 classic book of the same name. Only 23-years-old, Sofia is able to communicate complex melancholic tales of unbalanced relationships, with lilting, haunting melodies and vividly poetic lyrics, in her 6-track debut. “REVOLVER”, the inimitable lead single, is accompanied by a Lynch-esque video directed by contemporary artist Joan Horrach, which features a sign language performance of the lyrics — a reference to a fragment of the work ‘Nelken’ by choreographer Pina Bausch. With every release, Sofia invites listeners to join her within the pages of her diary, and has already received support from BBC Radio 1, Wonderland and attended the opening of the V&A’s Marie Antoinette exhibition, alongside her heroine Sofia Coppola and Dita Von Teese.

“I wrote this song in LA with Marshall Vore and John Hill. It started off about the sinking feeling you get when you’re telling someone your dream but you know they aren’t listening and then turned into a metaphor about life, dreams, and having all the time in the world for someone that barely gives you an afternoon. It took me a long time to figure out who it was about, and when I did I realised it is not an angry sentiment but a sad one. How can my life revolve(r) around someone who gives me so little? Who doesn’t listen to my dreams let alone my reality?” says Sofia.

LISTEN TO REVOLVER

Sofia and the Antoinettes, Revolver (Official Music Video):

Sofia is building a word-of-mouth following with her vivid lyricism, distinctive vocal ability and incredible stage presence. The EP follows her Women Who Love Too Much residency at Bar Doña in Stoke Newington, where Sofia interchanged female emotion and destruction with every performance — Women Who Cry Too Much, Women Who Smoke Too Much, and Women Who Think Too Much. Sofia will perform songs from the project this Autumn, as she gets ready to support Lola Young at venues across the UK next month, including Brixton Academy on 15 October.

“WOMEN WHO LOVE TOO MUCH” also features recent single “INTROSPECTION” co-written and produced by Grammy award winning producer Rob Bisel, and previous releases “SPIRALLING” and “OVERWHELMING FEAR”. Sofia writes for women who find themselves drawn to painful and unbalanced relationships, who feel things deeply and see romance in the everyday. Title track “WOMEN WHO LOVE TOO MUCH” is an ode to these women, who feel less alone when they see themselves reflected in her.

LISTEN TO WOMEN WHO LOVE TOO MUCH

Finding home in East London, Sofia is inspired by artists and poets including Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Sylvia Plath. She is meticulous with her lyricism and describes her output as "existentialism in high heels.” Releasing her first single “Matthew” late last year, Sofia started turning love letters into songs in 2024. I’ve been avoiding writing about you / but how are you Matthew? You felt a little like Vegas / so I went and put my money all on you, Sofia laments in Matthew. Last month Sofia released the marching “Spiralling”, singing: I could walk you home the long way tonight / I could write you a love song, only if you like / I’ve been talking about you to God, and she thinks you’re nice.

“God in my world is a woman,” says Sofia, “and the weakness or softness we possess, is a weapon”. If Sofia Coppola and David Lynch met at a flea market, and bought a dead woman’s life letters of love and wrote a script together, you might find something that resembles Sofia and The Antoinettes; a startling new talent.
