The director behind YouTube’s billion-view Clash of Clans universe and Emmy award-winning Netflix special, Entergalactic, starring the likes of Kid Cudi, Timothee Chalamet and more, is now turning the camera inward. The Australian-born, Los Angeles-based Fletcher Moules releases ‘Maybe’, a melancholic synth pop postcard, alongside its music video on Friday, September 19.

While Moules has made his name telling blockbuster stories, from Clash of Clans and Super Bowl commercials (featuring Liam Neeson and Christoph Waltz) to writing Agent Elvis alongside Priscilla Presley, The New Condition marks a return to something more personal. A quiet, creative pull, 20 years in the making.

Moules' time in the studio with Kid Cudi creating Entergalactic gave him the desire to get back into music himself - and The New Condition was born. Written almost two decades ago during a very different chapter of life, ‘Maybe’ was a song Moules never thought he’d share. It's the one song from The New Condition that comes from Moules' past. The melody lingered, maturing with time into something warm, layered and emotionally resonant.

Built on nostalgic synth keys, crisp electric drums and an unfiltered vocal performance, ‘Maybe’ hovers in the space between joy and longing. It’s soft and strange in all the right ways, a sonic exhale for uncertain days.

With mixing by Mark Saunders (The Cure, Erasure, Depeche Mode) and mastering by Matt Colton (Blur, Charli XCX, New Order), the track is a beautiful collision of memory and modernity, a song from the past polished for the present.

AI is a hot topic, and as a director for an Emmy-winning animated project, Moules is well aware of the potential harm it could cause in the wrong hands. The accompanying video leans into Moules’ filmmaking craft and the ongoing conversation about the ethical use of AI. Using his own images and licensed material as prompts inside Google’s Flow Veo3, he shaped a surreal, cinematic journey that reflects The New Condition’s mood.

This video features a leisurely drive along the road, accompanied by scenes from the cycle of life, such as ants carrying leaves, priests carrying a coffin, and a man camped out under a bridge. The car drives with purpose off a cliff, falling into the water, as the protagonist escapes and finds the embrace of a silhouetted woman. Moules reflects on the ethics of the project,

"I think of these AI tools like making an animated film. To me, it proves AI can be a great tool that empowers independent artists to tell high-end stories, as long as it is created responsibly."

Before film and animation, Moules was a musician first. His teenage band Vapourware won Triple J Unearthed, played Homebake, and toured alongside acts like Cut/Copy. Now, with The New Condition, he’s reconnecting with that part of himself.

The New Condition releases 'Maybe' on Friday, September 19th.
