The Pocket Gods Release Final Protest Single “The Sound of Silence (SOS)” as £1 Million Album Campaign Heads to Raindance Film Festival Premiere

30 seconds of pure silence marks the end of a decade-long fight against Spotify royalties, with the band’s documentary Inspired: From the 30 Second Song to the £1 Million Album premiering at Raindance on 20 June 2026.
The Pocket Gods have released their final protest single, “The Sound of Silence (SOS)” — a 30-second track consisting of complete silence.
The release serves as a stark artistic statement against Spotify’s royalty model, which the band says effectively pays most independent artists nothing. It arrives as Spotify marks its 20th anniversary and deepens its investment in AI-generated music.
This single marks the culmination of The Pocket Gods’ ten-year campaign for fair artist compensation. The journey began with albums of 30-second songs, led to a Guinness World Record for their 1,000-track album 1000x30 – Nobody Makes Money Anymore, and now reaches its dramatic peak with one single copy of their album Vegetal Digital on sale for £1 million at Empire Records in St Albans. All proceeds are intended to launch Nub Play, the band’s ethical streaming platform that guarantees artists a minimum of 1p per stream.
Mark Christopher Lee, frontman of The Pocket Gods and director of the upcoming documentary, said:
“We’ve spent ten years fighting for artists to actually get paid. This 30-second silence is our final protest single, but the real story is the £1 million album and the documentary that tells the whole journey. Raindance has always supported the underdog — this is our David vs Goliath moment.”
The single is taken from the band’s new documentary "Inspired: From the 30 Second Song to the £1 Million Album", which receives its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Saturday 20 June 2026 (Vue Piccadilly, Screen 5).
“The Sound of Silence (SOS)” is now streaming on Spotify, with the official video available on YouTube.
